The Historical Fact of Creation

Although God’s creation of the world in six days took place about six thousand years ago, the Book of Genesis gives us a plainly stated, unembellished account of what transpired. And, that knowledge is basic to a sound understanding of ourselves, the world around us, and our relationship to God.

THE BIBLICAL RECORD OF CREATION

The Biblical record summarizes the events of each creation day, and our observance of the Sabbath day is a testimony to the fact that we worship the God who created the world in six days. The book of Genesis also tells us that each day had an evening and a morning, in order to make it perfectly clear that the days were ordinary twenty-four hour days. Furthermore, it is anti-intellectual to believe that Moses was attempting to describe something entirely different from what he actually wrote down (such as Darwinian evolution).

EVOLUTION IS A MYTH

    Darwin’s dream (life evolving from primordial ooze) has never been proven, and indeed contradicts known facts of science. Mice do not spring into existence from dirty rags, maggots do not spontaneously generate in old meat, and mold is not dirt that has started to live. In fact, because a number of experiments have shown that nonliving matter does not simply come to life, those who continue to believe Darwin’s myth are rejecting the evidence and clinging to a delusion, much as a baby clings to a security blanket.

    When it comes to the age of the earth, there is solid scientific evidence that the world is not billions, or even millions, of years old. For example, careful measurements of the earth's magnetic field reveal that it is growing weaker. Since there is an upper limit to the strength of that field, it would have disappeared centuries ago if the world was really millions of years old. Other measurements reveal that the earth's rotational speed is slowing and the moon is gradually moving away from the earth. Again, since there is an upper limit to the speed of rotation, as well as how close the moon can get, we know that this has not been going on for millions of years. In addition, careful studies of erosion tell us that the existing river deltas are about five thousand years old, while the absence of meteors in the sedimentary layers of the earth's crust tell us that those strata were formed rapidly by the flood (not gradually over countless ages).

    Evolution not only contradicts known facts of science, but science reveals that the very opposite of evolution is taking place. For example, science knows of many animals that have become extinct, but there is no record of any new animal ever coming into existence. The number of species is becoming fewer (not greater) and mutations result from damage to the genetic code, which is always harmful. In short, rather than becoming grander and more glorious, the universe is in a state of decay, and without outside interference, present processes will eventually result in the destruction of all life. Science tells us that left to itself the universe will eventually become cold, dark, and motionless (Hebrews 1:10-12). Those who cling to evolution are simply closing their minds to the truth (Jeremiah 17:9).

EVOLUTION IS NOT SCIENTIFIC

    While the advocates of evolution portray it as something new, Lucretius (who wrote before the time of Christ and was the product of an age in which scholars scorned research as menial labor) taught the evolutionary origin of life. In fact, his description of men who had not yet developed social graces or learned to build houses differs little from modern descriptions of “cave men.” That should not surprise us, because Darwin simply began with a naturalistic philosophy and tailored the evidence to support it. For example, after only a six-week study, Darwin concluded that certain finches had evolved their peculiar characteristics in order to survive on the Galapagos Islands. However, those finches have always been finches, and there is no evidence that they were ever anything else. If some of the animals found on the Galapagos Islands are not found elsewhere, that is not because the struggle to survive produced them, but because the lack of a struggle to survive kept them from becoming extinct.

    I might also point out that Darwin's book is full of contradictions. For example, in order to explain the lack of hair on humans he said that females preferred males with less hair, and chose them as mates until all had very little hair. Then to explain the development of intelligence he claimed that males fought over mates, enabling those with greater intelligence to perpetuate their seed (in other words, men made the choice).     Furthermore, many of Darwin's conclusions were rooted in racism. He taught that the human race originated in Africa, and spoke of black people as being apelike. In fact, because his philosophy gave scientific credibility to racist views, it has fathered atrocities, cruelty and suffering. Some black people were actually shot by evolutionists so that they could be stuffed and used as museum exhibits (see “One Blood” by Ken Ham, Pages 119-124). In addition, Darwin’s views have been eagerly promoted by such noted atheists as Feuerbach, Nietzsche, Marx, and Comte, all of whom saw in his doctrine a way of dismissing God while exalting man to godhood (Isaiah 14:12-15).

THE HISTORICAL EVIDENCE

At least 168 different cultures have preserved some record of creation and/or the flood. Of those, one Chinese account preserves the name “Nu-wah” (a name very similar to Noah) as the name of the man whose family survived the flood, while a Hawaiian account preserves that name as “Noe”. A picture glyph record kept by the Delaware Indians (the Walum Olum) connects the serpent with the entrance of evil into the world. CONCLUSION

The Bible gives us a divinely inspired account of how the world came into existence, and it is the only account composed by someone who was actually there. In contrast, every attempt to concoct some other explanation of man’s origin is rooted in self-deception and the deceitfulness of the human heart. Moreover, because those who reject what the Bible says about creation generally reject what it says about God, there is a clear connection between the rise of evolution and the spread of immorality and homosexuality. As it is written, “God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.” (Romans 1:24)
